Plan A Visit to OHREC

OHREC welcomes visitors during normal business hours - 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. All visitors are required to check in with staff at the main office. OHREC is closed on designated Kansas State University holidays. Drop-ins and scheduled visits are welcome. Please call or text 816-806-3734 or email [email protected] to schedule a visit. Planned public events are also offered throughout the year. Check back regularly for updates on public events.

Educational Field Experiences
OHREC offers Field Experience Learning Labs for middle and high school students. Specific Learning Lab content will be under the general topics of horticulture and turf science and may inlcude: plant grafting, soil health identifiers, underground arthropod identification, or plant propagation, to list a few topics. Learning Labs can also be designed for younger audiences. Cost for a Learning Lab experience is $5 per student. ​Backyard Demonstration Garden
The Backyard Demonstration Garden, a project of the Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners, features vegetable, herb, and fruit growing plots created with the backyard gardener in mind. This demonstration garden provides visitors a look at diverse crops grown using research-based techniques that can be applied to any home garden. Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners are available to answer questions and provide tours while they work the gardens on Wednesday mornings from March through October. Disc Golf
Spoon Creek Disc Golf Course is an award-winning, 18+ hole, pay-to-play course open to the public during regular OHREC business hours - 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. More details about cost and reserving a tee time can be found here.
