There were oohs and aahs all around when Larry and Randy completed construction of a luxurious lean-to on the back of the garden shed just in time for the field day. It now provides a home for our mowers, trimmers, and tiller, which leaves us with more room and better access to the tools in the main shed.
For the remainder of August, it was time for harvesting our many summer crops and planting our cool season crops, including spinach, radishes, and lettuces. We also took breaks for fun. Karen and Mark took the BYG gardeners on a tour of the Native section; Nancy shared her Field Day presentation on invasive plants with us; and Paula Dix and Leslie Akehurst conducted a tomato tasting of the AAS varieties that were grown in their section. On August 16, we had another of our legendary potluck lunches, which gave us all an opportunity to share the bounty of own gardens with our EMG and K-State staff friends.
